There Corporation’s seminar was a big success
There Corporation arranged a seminar “Smarter use of energy through innovations” in Helsinki concentrating on smarter use of energy on 10th of September. Four leading Finnish companies and institutions – Nokia, Fortum, Ensto and Technopolis – gave their views on the hot topic. There Corporation, a spin-off from Nokia, with top expertise from the Vaasa energy cluster, was also introduced in the seminar together with the company’s funding. The seminar audience was limited to one hundred due to the size of the auditorium and it was jam packed to the limit.

“We are very happy with the progress of Innovation Mill,” stated Will Cardwell, Director of Technopolis Development Services. “We are at the rate of an average of one spinout per month, and we have a nice pipeline of new deals in the works. These new companies prove that Innovation Mill is a viable model, and we hope that more and more existing companies will also leverage Nokia’s non-core IPR through our Innovation Mill program.

Kirsi Sormunen, Vice President of sustainability in Nokia, discussed about the enabling effect of ICT and mobile technology in reducing energy consumption. When it comes to energy efficiency, one of the most important things for Nokia is to make sustainable choices easy for consumers. For example, purchasing digital music reduces the energy and CO2 emissions of delivering music to consumers by 40- 80%.

“As energy consumption is still quite far from the EU 20-20-20 target, new ways of energy efficiency solutions must be introduced to the consumers” said Vesa Koivisto, Business Development Manager of Fortum. Fortum’s goal is to bring access to real time consumption data which paves the way for new applications, such as plug-in electric cars and Dynamic pricing signals.

Timo Luukkainen, President and CEO of Ensto, sees that there shouldn’t be any compromises when creating energy efficient ways to live – comfort should and can be improved. Buildings have a significant part in improving energy efficiency since they count for 40% of all energy usage.

Lehdistötiedote/ Press release: Nollaenergiarakentaminen perustuu tehokkaaseen energian mittaukseen ja hallintaan
Tulevaisuuden talot ovat nollaenergiataloja, jotka tuottavat oman energiatarpeensa esimerkiksi aurinko- tai tuulienergian avulla. Nollaenergiatalossa on olennaista energian kulutuksen ja tuottamisen mittaaminen ja hallinta. Suomalaisen There Corporationin kehittämillä ratkaisulla sähkönkulutusta voidaan säästää ja ohjata energian hinnan mukaan. Koko maan mittakaavassa näin saavutettava energiansäästö on suurempi kuin mahdollisilla Kollajan ja Vuotoksen altailla saavutettava sähköntuotanto.
Uuden sukupolven energiaratkaisut nostavat energiatehokkuuden kokonaan uudelle tasolle. Kehittyneet järjestelmät tuottavat entistä tarkempaa energianseurantatietoa, jolloin asunnoissa nähdään, mihin ja milloin energiaa kuluu, ja kulutusta voidaan järkeistää. ”Tarkan ja selkeän tiedon avulla omakotiasuja voi säästää jopa 10–20 prosenttia sähkölaskussaan. Kodin sähkönkulutusta voidaan myös ohjata energian hinnan mukaan ja vähentää kulutusta silloin, kun hinta on korkeimmillaan. Tällöin päästään vielä isompiin hyötyihin”, kertoo Kaj Rönnlund, energiatietoja kerääviä ja hyödyntäviä laite- ja ohjelmistoalustoja valmistavan There Corporationin toimitusjohtaja.
”Yksittäinen perhe voi säästää jopa satoja euroja vuodessa. Koko Suomen mittakaavassa puhutaan terawattitunneista,” jatkaa Rönnlund. Hänen mukaansa älykkäällä energian mittaamisella ja käytön ohjaamisella voidaan Suomessa säästää yli kaksi terawattituntia sähköä pelkästään kotitalouksien puolella, mikä on noin puolet koko Suomen hiililauhteella tuotetusta sähkömäärästä.
”Lisäksi automaattinen energiankäytön ohjaaminen ja kulutushuippujen tasaaminen tuo käyttöön niin kutsuttua säätövoimaa, jonka tarve sähköverkoissa koko ajan kasvaa. Esimerkiksi tuulivoiman ja ydinvoiman rakentaminen vaatii lisää tätä säätövoimaa, jota saadaan aikaan paljon taloudellisemmin ja ympäristöystävällisemmin älykkäällä kulutuksen joustolla kuin lisäämällä tuotantoa. Tätä arvokasta säätövoimaakin voidaan näin saada käyttöön jopa enemmän kuin Vuotoksella ja Kollajalla yhteensä.”
There perustettiin keväällä 2009 jatkamaan Nokia Oy:ssä kehitettyä Smart Home -teknologiaa ja kaupallistamaan se ensin energia-alueen ratkaisuiksi. Yritykseen tuotiin Nokialla kehitetty teknologia sekä maailmanluokan osaaminen tietoliikenteen, langattomien tekniikoiden, platformien ja elektroniikan integroinnin alueilta. Samassa yhteydessä Thereen tuli mukaan myös vahvaa kokemusta energian mittausjärjestelmistä ja älykkäistä sähköverkoista (Smart Grids) Vaasalaisen Comsel System Oy:n perustajien mukana. Suomalainen nollaenergiarakentamisen huippuosaaminen on koottu yhteen Aalto-yliopiston projektissa, jossa Luukku-talo lähtee edustamaan Suomea Solar Decathlon Europe -kilpailuun Espanjaan ensi kesänä. ThereGate-alusta koostaa Luukku-talon monitahoiset energian mittaukset, laskennat ja visualisoinnit. Sen avulla talon energian tuottoa ja kulutusta voidaan sekä seurata ja ohjata tarkasti että havainnollistaa talon asukkaille ja vierailijoille.
